D.J. Allen
Chairman of the Board, Henderson Chamber of Commerce

Dear Fellow Chamber members,

I'm preparing this while enjoying beautiful Henderson weather and a great lunch in the Water Street District - at a Chamber member, of course. Here's a quick update about YOUR Chamber of Commerce:

Representation in Carson City critical to our members

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce hosted a reception at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City last week. Members who attended met with Senator Roberson, Majority Floor Leader Assemblyman Anderson and Assemblyman Derek Armstrong, as well as a phone conference with Lt. Governor Mark Hutchison. We'd like to thank all the Chamber members who made the trip north to represent the organization as well as all of the elected officials who attended. Together, we have a voice at the Nevada Legislature.

Please plan on attending our Networking Breakfast taking place on March 10th.  We will be discussing "Issues Over Easy", a recap of our meetings with our representatives as well as a review of the bills we are currently monitoring for the 2015 session.  You can register here.

Event features economic outlook by experts; Board members to attend

All of our board members and tiered sponsors will get together tonight for InSight 2015, an exclusive event at the LUX on the top floor of the M Resort. It is a top-down look at the economy from an international, national and local point of view by Mike PeQueen of HighTower Las Vegas and John Restrepo of RCG Economics. We have nearly 80 members who have chosen to become tiered sponsors.

For more information on tiered sponsorship opportunities, contact Scott Muelrath at (702) 565-8951 or smuelrath@hendersonchamber.com. It's more affordable than you might think.

Group recognizes the importance of local races, potential impact

The Henderson Chamber's political action committee (IMPAC) has made the decision to endorse in the upcoming races for Henderson City Council. It will invite all candidates (for all three races this cycle) to interview prior to making the endorsements and then share those endorsements with members and the community. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 and the general election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2. Look for more information on IMPAC endorsements soon

Chamber networking events continue to grow

As we mentioned in our last update, our networking mixers are getting bigger and bigger. We have one next Thursday (Feb. 26) that you won't want to miss at Lucky Foo's (8955 S. Eastern Ave., near I-215). This new restaurant & bar concept - opened by my good friend Eamon Springall and his partners - has been coined as an "American Izakaya." Check it out - it's worth it! Chamber networking mixers offer business professionals an opportunity to grow their network and their business by sharing contacts, referrals and ideas, so do not miss your chance to build those relationships. RSVP here.

Born And Raised Henderson sports bar coming in May

I received two common questions after my comments prior to Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen's stellar State of the City Address earlier this month. First, I have been asked, "What does your wife think of your humor?" Unfortunately, not much. Fortunately, however, Stacey is used to my attempt at humor and takes all of my jokes in stride (even when she's involved in the punchline). I am lucky to have married someone so special - and forgiving.

Second, I have been asked, "What sports bar were you referring to?" Well, I'm pleased to say longtime friend Scott Godino, his son, Scottie Jr., and their entire family have asked me to join their team as we open Born And Raised - Henderson on Eastern (near St. Rose Parkway) at the beginning of May. They have been hugely successful with the first Born And Raised in the Southwest part of Las Vegas over the past few years. With the expansion to Henderson, they wanted to include a Henderson native in the project and I'm excited to help bring something special to the city to celebrate the community. I have no doubt you will enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing you there. (I'll still be concentrating on Xs & Os of Success and the leadership and professional development company, but you'll see me at Born And Raised - Henderson quite a bit!)

How much do you invest in your team?

Two quick questions: 1) How much do you invest in cleaning your offices throughout the year? 2) Is it more or less than you invest in growing your employees? You may be shocked to learn most businesses spend more on cleaning their offices every year than they do on growing their employees through leadership, professional and personal development. It's a sad reality in business and a huge missed opportunity to enhance the ROI from your team members.

Make a commitment this year to better equip your employees with real, meaningful development opportunities (professional and personal). Your bottom-line will benefit from it. The Henderson Chamber of Commerce offers terrific resources for employees to grow. If you are looking for additional options, shoot me an email at dj.allen@xsosofsuccess.com and we'll give you some direction to find the right help. Your teammates deserve it - and so do you.

Thank you for your continued support of this great organization. God bless.
