VISION
Expanding community leadership through People, Passion and Purpose.
DESCRIPTION
Leadership Henderson is a non-profit organization under the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The program is an eight-month course devoted to educating and empowering civic-minded professionals with a goal of building and maintaining a strong network of effective community leaders. Through panel presentations by community leaders and experts, simulations, plus hands-on experiences, participants learn about current issues pertaining to local economy, government, social services, health, gaming, business and education that effect the residents and businesses that call Henderson home. Activities focus on developing strong working relationships between participants, identifying and evaluating the characteristics of leadership and distinguishing each person’s leadership style. Selection of participants (both acknowledged and aspiring leaders) is based upon demonstrated leadership experience, potential, and abilities. Ultimately, the program develops the professional’s people skills and passion for community all while instilling a purpose that emphasizes personal responsibility, commitment, vision and community leadership.
PROGRAM
Designed as a program of exploration and examination, Leadership Henderson examines issues, asks critical questions and strives to provide answers that do not conform to the status quo. The eight-month program includes:
Opening Session - A two-day retreat serves as an overall introduction to Leadership Henderson and the study of leadership. Activities focus on developing strong working relationships between participants, identifying and evaluating the characteristics of leadership, and distinguishing each participant’s leadership style.
Monthly Sessions - Full-day sessions are the first Friday of every month, held at various locations throughout the community and consist of panel discussions, lectures, community tours and interactive exercises, which include face-to-face discussions with top-level business, civic and governmental leaders.

- Quality of Life & Community Amenities
- Planning & Development
- Gaming & Tourism
- Business & Industry
Upon completion of the program, graduates will have gained a keen sense of awareness about community issues and will have developed relationships with leading professionals in Henderson that will aid them throughout their career.
PARTICIPATION
Participants in Leadership Henderson must be committed to representing and to improving their community, their organizations, and themselves. Applicants must also:
SELECTION PROCESS
A selection committee will choose individuals for Leadership Henderson based on a two-part process, including the review of all applications and personal interviews of final candidates. Candidates are evaluated based on:
A professional commitment to remain in the community.
A commitment to complete the program with diligence.
Past and present community involvement.
A sincere concern about the future of our community and a personal desire to help shape that future.
Interviews will be held during August, and all applicants will receive written notification of their selection status the first week of September.
TUITION
The cost per participant is $1,750. Payment will be due upon acceptance into the program. Cash, check or credit card accepted. The tuition is non-refundable if a selected applicant is terminated from the program for absence or other reasons.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Limit answers to the space provided. No attachments are permitted.
Complete and sign the application. The applicant’s employer must also sign the application.
Mail or deliver applications to the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber must receive all application packages no later than 5:00 p.m., the first Friday of July.

Class of 2001 - Develop and Promote Leadership Henderson, coordinating future years and seeing that the program continues
Class of 2002 - Formation of the Henderson Community Foundation
Class of 2003 - Arts Alive movement, supporting downtown Henderson's Water Street District
Class of 2004 - Scholarship program for a non-profit participant to attend Leadership Henderson
Class of 2005 - Refurnished, painted and decorated all of the suites at SAFE House
Class of 2006 - Started an endownment for HACA (Henderson Allied Community Advocates)
Class of 2007 - Formation of School Down the Street Foundation, Educational Advancement for Henderson Children
